Dry Eye Treatment: Xiidra®
Xiidra is a prescription eye drop solution used to effectively treat the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease with patients feeling relief in about 2 weeks on average.
Xiidra has been studied in more than 1,000 patients with dry eye in four separate, 12-week clinical studies. Xiidra was proven to reduce the symptom of eye dryness in all four studies and the sign of inferior corneal staining in three of the four studies.
About the Treatment:
If your doctor prescribes Xiidra, you’ll probably use one drop in each eye every 12 hours. There is presently no cure for Dry Eye Disease; however, Xiidra has reduced the symptoms at a faster rate than any other drug currently on the market. It can be used with artificial tear products, but your need for these will most likely decrease as your eyes improve.
It is not known if Xiidra is safe and effective in children under 17 years of age.
If you wear contacts you will need to remove them in order to administer Xiidra and wait 15 minutes afterward before putting your contacts back into your eyes.
The most common side effects of Xiidra include eye irritation, discomfort, or blurred vision when the drops are applied to the eyes, and an unusual taste sensation (dysgeusia). Tell your doctor if you have any side effects that bother you.
